What's new this winter in La Plagne
From the ski area to what's fresh in the resort
As winter begins to take hold in we take a look at all that's new in town and on the slopes.
Early signs of snowfall here in The Alps are creating much excitement for the upcoming winter season. The ski industry here is raring to go and this winter looks like being an exceptionally busy one. La Plagne ski area opens on the 16 December and ski passes are now on sale.
Winter tyres
A reminder that from 1 November to 31 March you'll need to have winter tyres on your vehicle (M&S marking, or all weather (four season) tyres), OR at least snow chains or socks in the vehicle when driving in the mountain regions in France, following a law introduced in November 2021.

On the slopes
Paradiski celebrates 20 years
Along with a new logo, Paradiski will be celebrating their 20 years in resorts, so look out for more information on events.
Live 3000
December will see the launch of the new Glaciers gondola. With 10-seater cabins and an ascent time of 10 minutes, it will carry 2,700 people per hour to over 3,000m.
Snowshoeing with dogs
Grab your snowshoes and join the sled dogs for an afternoon exploring on the snowy tracks and woodland paths around La Plagne.
Doggy ski-school
Not only can dogs pull you along on a sled, but from this winter La Plagne has launched the first dog ski school in the world. This year is a test season for ESF, with a roll-out planned for next winter if all proves successful. Each student gets a medal at the end of their week, just like the two-legged students.
New food and drink options
Dine at altitude
If you take advantage of the new Glaciers gondola, as soon as the doors open skiers and pedestrians will discover a relaxing place with amazing views, and Le Sixieme Ciel has sweet and savoury snacks to enjoy inside or on the terrace.
Travel
Snow Train reboot
This direct rail service between London and the Tarentaise Valley has been relaunched (yes, again) for winter 2023 to 2024 and renamed the Eurostar snow train.
The service will hopefully encourage British skiers to travel in an eco-friendly way, departing from London on a Saturday morning and returning from France on a Sunday morning. Watch out for package offers including rail travel.
