Grottes des Glaces, Bellecote

1. Grottes des Glaces

In the Chiaupe glacier at the top of Bellecôte (3,417m), an ice cave has been dug every winter since 2005.

Set in a gallery with several rooms, the cave houses spectacular sculptures carved directly into the ice.

Accessible to pedestrians and skiers, one can discover the distinctly different layers of ice and the colours of the glacial world.

A giant iguana, marmots, birds of prey and even giant flowers lurk in the bowels of the glacier. At 0°C whatever the external conditions, the ice caves remain constant.
