The beginning of the end, Scotty’s end of season party, held on the final Wednesday après, featuring The Dominos and DJ Blitz and hosted by Oxygene it promised to be an absolutely epic event and it certainly did not let us down.
This week I have been doing my drinking for charity! That’s right The Huck Cancer crew came to Scotty’s and threw an awareness and fund raising event which I supported by drinking excessively and dancing on tables.
Not content with only skiing in the daylight I decided this week to give night skiing a go and booked with a group of friends onto Oxygene Ski and Snowboard School's Moonlight Ski Experience. You get last lifts up the Grande Rochette, have dinner and an avalanche awareness talk at the top, and then ski back down Mira under the night sky.
As I’m sure you all know as you have it marked on your calendar and never, ever forget, it’s Mother’s Day on March 10th which is this Sunday!
Now this may be a bit more "avant" reporting than apres but bear with me, its definitely worth it.
Haven’t you always thought that the one thing missing from your ski holiday was a good night out at the bowling alley? No? No, probably not. To be fair I hadn’t really thought that the two went together either but I recently took a trip to La Plagne’s own bowling alley and found it to be an unexpectedly great night out.
So the season is about to kick off in La Plagne, and the assorted hotel, bar, instructor, restaurant and retail staffs are waiting with bated breath for the lifts to finally start running. The atmosphere is taut, poised like a coin about to flip or a Jaeger bomb about to be dropped. Opening parties are planned and bands are booked, bars are being scrubbed to within an inch of their varnished lives, kegs are connected, vodka is in the optics. We’re ready. All we need now is the go ahead from the mountain, well that and to clear the deluge of snow from our decks so people can actually get in the door.
Pancake day may have passed but that’s no reason not to get stuck in to a crepe every now and then. I’m a traditionalist at heart so would usually stick to the lemon and sugar classic but good lord there is a world of pancake choice out there, there’s some crazy cats even putting cheese in them! Savoury pancakes, who knew!
Well this is it folks, my last après report of the 2012/13 season and my god has it been a good one. I have experienced so many of the amazing activities and events that La Plagne has to offer and yet I can’t help but feel that I haven’t even scratched the surface - so many un-tasted restaurants and un-drunk bars, events I missed through having to work (boo), and tour groups I haven’t been a part of. Ah well - looks like I shall just have to come back next year! What a shame.
In 1992, Albertville hosted the 16th Winter Olympiad with La Plagne selected as the venue for the Bobsleigh event.
Right, the super luge derby run by Oxygene Ski and Snowboard School in La Plagne. Simply put, every one should do it, it is the most chaotically hilarious fun I have had in a long time - check out the video to the right of the report if you don't believe me!
For the purposes of research I have been branching out with my restaurant choices this season and experiencing as many different venues as possible, however this week I fell back on an old fail-safe; Le Refuge.
Listen up now folks, my birthday is just around the corner and I know what I want, my very own Skidoo! And a year round snowy playground on which to ride it if possible!
So my weekend started out well with a trip to the bar to watch Wales give England a right good thrashing in their 6 Nations Rugby game!
Well it has been one amazing Christmas here in La Plagne; I have never seen so many skiing Santas in my life, not to mention snowboarding elves and one pair who deserve a mention for being a skiing reindeer pulling a snowboarding Santa along with his ski poles. Great festive cheer boys.
This year I was fortunate enough to receive the ultimate Christmas gift. My partner, Eléa, booked us on an excursion I’ve wanted to try since forever: a once in a lifetime helicopter ride round Mont Blanc.
Last night saw a slightly pre-emptive but very successful Valentines party thrown by Oxygene Ski & Snowboard School, taking their usual breathe party and giving it a flirty twist with a traffic lights theme.
