Christmas in La Plagne

Christmas fun with Santa and his Elves, music parade, mini disco and more

Location

Father Christmas has relocated his workshop to the Alps this year and will be finishing off his last-minute preparations here in La Plagne.

Come down to the Christmas Village in La Plagne. There will be activities for the whole family including, of course, the chance to meet Santa Claus. There will be a festive themed show for children, mini disco, story telling, Father Christmas Parade and a torchlit descent and fireworks.

With so many families visiting the valley for the festive season, there is a real child-like excitement as the big day draws ever closer, and usually there's an opportunity to spot the main man himself meeting and greeting people around the resort. There is normally a chance to meet Papa Noรซl and when the streets lights are turned on it's hard to ignore that Christmas is nearly here. On Christmas Day there will be a fireworks display to close the instructors torchlit descent which starts at 17:15.

To prepare you for your French Christmas, here are a few festive facts that make the French Santa Claus a little different:

  • rather than a red hat, Pรจre Noรซl wears a red cloak with a hood trimmed in white fur - a small difference easily unnoticed
  • children do not wake up to presents under the tree on Christmas morning, because traditionally le Pรจre Noรซl brings toys to good little boys and girls after evening Mass on Christmas Eve
  • children do not leave milk and cookies for Papa Noรซl, but at the very least they'll leave him a glass of Calvados or wine
  • children do not hang stockings, but rather leave their shoes and slippers out and if they have been good Pรจre Noรซl will fill them with treats
  • children in France behave around the holidays out of fear of Le Pรจre Fouettard, who follows Pรจre Noรซl to discipline naughty children

Where and when

Across all sites on Christmas Day from 09:30 is an opportunity for everyone to meet Santa across the various snow fronts of Belle Plagne, Plagne Bellecรดte, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages, Plagne 1800 and Aime 2000.
