From the ski area to what's fresh in the resort
From a quieter way of preparing the pistes to a new overnight train service and the return of a much-loved piece of resort history, La Plagne is introducing some interesting changes for winter 2026-2027. There’s a refreshed look for its iconic red hat, a major step towards cleaner snow grooming and the reopening of a popular mountain residence. Here’s what to look out for on your next ski holiday.

Meet the electric snow groomer
One of the most significant changes this winter is happening before you even reach the pistes. La Plagne is one of three ski resorts in the Compagnie des Alpes group trialling a new 100% electric snow groomer, developed by PRINOTH ahead of its wider commercial launch in winter 2027-2028.
The machine is due to begin operating at La Plagne in December 2026, giving piste teams the opportunity to put the technology through its paces. Unlike conventional diesel-powered machines, it produces no fine particulate emissions and operates almost silently. It’s also expected to reduce maintenance and running costs, potentially paving the way for a more sustainable approach to preparing the slopes.
You might not notice it making its way across the mountain, but it’s an important step towards reducing the environmental impact of your ski holiday.
Fewer piste banners, clearer warnings
If you’ve ever wondered why some ski runs are lined with warning banners, La Plagne is changing the way it communicates hazards this winter. The resort plans to remove around 80% of its piste banners, replacing many of them with fewer, more strategically positioned triangular signs inspired by road signage.
The new approach follows successful trials during the previous season. Rather than having warnings scattered along the pistes, the aim is to make important messages about hazards such as icy patches and junctions easier to spot when you need them.
It’s a small but meaningful change designed to help you stay aware of your surroundings while keeping the pistes clearer and easier to navigate.

The iconic red hat gets a makeover
You can’t talk about La Plagne without mentioning its famous red hat. This winter, the resort’s instantly recognisable emblem celebrates its 60th anniversary with a refreshed visual identity.
First created in 1966 for the television game show Interneige, the red hat has become a defining symbol of La Plagne. Now, the resort is giving it a more playful personality, with updated graphics, new customisations and a mascot that takes centre stage in its communications.
The anniversary also marks the return of Interneige in a new format. Inspired by the original competition, the revamped initiative is intended to bring together mountain resorts, including destinations involved in the 2030 Winter Olympics, through informal challenges and events during the season.
Look out for the red hat appearing in new guises around the resort, as La Plagne celebrates its heritage while looking towards the future.
A refreshed stay at MMV Plagne Aime 2000
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, there’s good news at MMV Plagne Aime 2000. Following a fire in April 2025, the residence-club is scheduled to reopen in December 2026 after extensive renovation work, bringing 480 beds back into the resort’s accommodation offering.
The reopening also comes with a renewed focus on food. MMV has set itself the target of sourcing 80% of its produce from organic, certified or local suppliers within five years, alongside a greater emphasis on seasonal ingredients and plant-based dishes. You can expect vegetarian evenings to feature as part of the new approach.

Refill your water bottle around the resort
La Plagne is also making it easier to cut down on single-use plastic during your stay. Eleven new water fountains have been installed at tourist information reception points, adding to the three already available across the ski area.
Take a reusable bottle with you and refill it rather than buying bottled water every time you need a drink. It’s a straightforward way to reduce waste while you’re out exploring the resort.
The initiative forms part of La Plagne’s wider commitment to the Zero Litter in the Mountains by 2030 charter. The resort is also reviewing its use of fireworks, with the aim of reducing the waste they leave behind and exploring alternative ways to celebrate.
Events

The return of Interneige
La Plagne’s iconic red bobble hat is turning 60 this winter, and the resort is celebrating by bringing back Interneige on 13 January 2027. The original winter competition inspired the creation of the famous hat in 1966; now, a revamped version will bring together resorts linked to the 2030 Winter Olympics and other mountain-industry figures for a series of fun, informal challenges. Further details are still to be announced, so keep an eye out for updates as the anniversary celebrations take shape.
