Spring Powder Alert!

Spring Skiing Powder Style!

Imprint
By Jen Tsang, Updated

What a week it's been. The snow was forecast when I last wrote, but would it arrive?

Well, yes, it did! In bucket loads! Last weekend, we had significant snowfall, refreshing a lot of the resort. With the combination of fresh snow, quiet pistes and sunny skies, we have seen some of the best days of skiing on the mountain we've had all winter.

Snow Report
There was enough snowfall to refresh the off-piste areas, and they were light and fluffy - until the end of the weekend! It is well trekked out now, and with warmer temperatures, it has turned soft and slushier in places. The temperature hasn't dropped low enough to make it crusty or icy, but I'd expect this to happen in the coming day.

On the pistes, there was deep fresh powder to play all weekend. Then, when the skies cleared and visibility improved, it was dream conditions. Of course, they have been pisted several times since the snowfall. The pistes are firm in the mornings, softening up throughout the late morning and slushier into the afternoon.

Snow Forecast
This morning, the skies were blue and clear. But it has already clouded over as we wait for the coming snow. We are forecast for 30+ cms of snow over the next 3 days!

However, the one problem is that the freezing level is relatively high - 1800m - 2000m. Below this altitude, we will see rain - and quite a lot of it, perhaps turning to snow in the evening as the temperature drops further.

Jen's Top Tips

  • Conditions will be more challenging, so low light lenses can make all the difference. If you've got them, wear them!
  • When it's actually snowing, head to the runs that play through the trees (or buildings!). They often give you some shelter and better visibility.
  • Although it will be snowing, it's not necessarily cold. So think waterproof but thin layers.
  • With weather conditions being a little more erratic, keep an eye on your route home. It is too easy to take a wrong turn and end up a long way from where you want to be!

Updates
If you head to the bottom of this page, you can see the day by day forecast of what to expect in your resort. But, we will also be updating this snow report page every Wednesday, so check back in with us next week to see how the pistes are doing and what you can expect from the snow forecast for the next 7 days.
