La Plagne’s new Envers chairlift officially opened yesterday, vastly improving access between the Montalbert sector and the rest of the ski area.

The new six-seater chair replaces the old Coqs lift and climbs from the foot of Adrets (the main link to Montalbert) directly to Plagne Aime 2000. Envers had been due to open much earlier in the year but has been plagued by delays, resulting in long queues through the season at the only other link out from Montalbert, the chair at La Roche.

The Envers chairlift features futuristic top and bottom stations with a unique sculpted pyramid design. The chairs themselves have ergonomically shaped seats and a low profile foot-rest and safety bar. All in all, it looks very impressive – even if it is desperately late in delivery.

At peak times, Envers has a capacity of 3000 skiers per hour – 2400 per hour in normal operation. It provides a much-needed fast link back from the large, off-piste bowl to the side of Aime 2000 as well as the Montalbert area.

The development of the Envers chair marks the initial stages of an ambitious program of upgrades planned for La Plagne over the next ten years, estimated to cost around €200M. More info to follow.
