It’s beginning to look and feel a lot like winter out here in La Plagne. Snow capped peaks once again dominate our winter landscape and it’s really cold. It’s getting so close to the start of a new ski season now, who’s excited? We are excited to bring you an up to date snow report every week throughout the season.
Big news in La Plagne, there will be a pre-opening this weekend 7/8 December, time to get the skis waxed and make some early tracks! La Plagne is opening fully next weekend the 14 December for the season.
Tonight through to Sunday we are expecting a good snowfall of around 34cm, the heaviest to be on Saturday afternoon. The early part of this week was extremely cold and although it has warmed up a little for Thursday and Friday, we will see the temperature plummet by Friday night.
The freezing level earlier this week was down to around 1000m and is hovering around 1500 - 2000m for the end of the week. This will drop down to around 750m at the weekend, with fresh north westerly winds on Saturday getting lighter into Sunday. The good news is that it looks like it will be staying cold with a low freezing level for the next few days, hard to predict after that.
Although the snow coverage is looking good, be aware that as this is early season and the off-piste areas will not have been skied much yet, so not well compacted and there is likely to be thin coverage in many places.
The first event for the season the Bobsleigh and Skeleton world cup is on now until Saturday 7 December. The Christmas festive atmosphere is beginning to build in the resort. It’s exciting to see Les Arcs all white again and the mountains will be adorned with skiers and the restaurants and bars will be open and buzzing once again from next Saturday.
